The UNM 21 Club
The UNM 21 Club was formed at the University of New Mexico in 1949 by Archie J. Bahm, a Professor of Philosophy.
Professor Bahm hoped to establish a dialog between each of the 21 departments that existed at that time.
His hope was fulfilled and continues with a select group of faculty and administrators who have distinguished themselves by their teaching and/or research.
Typically four meetings of the 21 Club are held during the academic year. Membership is by invitation.
Last Meeting
Our last meeting of the fall was a social hour followed by dinner at the University Club on Tuesday, December 10 to serve as a chance to get together and socialize during the holiday season.
Next Meeting
Our next 21 Club Meeting will be at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 11 in the Mechanical Engineering Building, Room 310. This meeting will feature a presentation and tour by club member John Russell (Professor of Mechanical Engineering). John will provide a presentation on the School of Engineering’s Formula SAE interdisciplinary senior capstone design program – a hands-on-experimental three-semester program based on an international competition. The students are required to design, build, test, and compete a motorcycle scaled race car. The project includes all the challenges of IndyCar or Formula 1 racing. UNM competes in the electric vehicle competition as LOBOmotorsports. Additionally, you will learn what makes cars fast! The presentation will be followed by a tour of the dedicated $1.5M, 8000 square-foot design and build facility.
This should prove to be a very interesting meeting, so please plan to attend.
After John’s presentation and tour we will go to Saggios (107 Cornell Drive SE, just south of Central, https://unmsaggios.com/) for our social hour and dinner. The social hour and dinner will be a no-host event, so no need to prepay.
