The UNM 21 Club
The UNM 21 Club was formed at the University of New Mexico in 1949 by Archie J. Bahm, a Professor of Philosophy.
Professor Bahm hoped to establish a dialog between each of the 21 departments that existed at that time.
His hope was fulfilled and continues with a select group of faculty and administrators who have distinguished themselves by their teaching and/or research.
Typically four meetings of the 21 Club are held during the academic year. Membership is by invitation.
Last Meeting
Our last 21 Club meeting was on Tuesday, March 11 in the Mechanical Engineering Building, Room 310. This meeting featured a presentation and tour by club member John Russell (Professor of Mechanical Engineering). John provided a presentation on the School of Engineering’s Formula SAE interdisciplinary senior capstone design program – a hands-on-experimental three-semester program based on an international competition.
Next Meeting
At our last meeting this semester Bernd Bassalleck will tell us about the changes in Iraq which he has personally experienced since growing up there in the 1950’s.
This will be an unusual and very interesting talk about part of the oldest of the cradles of civilization, so please plan to attend. Bernd’s talk is on Tuesday, April 29 at 5:30 pm in PAIS room 2540. Following the talk we will have our social and dinner at Los Cuates (4901 Lomas Blvd. NE). The social hour and dinner will be a no-host event, so no need to prepay.
