The UNM 21 Club

Archie BahmThe UNM 21 Club was formed at the University of New Mexico in 1949 by Archie J. Bahm, a Professor of Philosophy.

Professor Bahm hoped to establish a dialog between each of the 21 departments that existed at that time.

His hope was fulfilled and continues with a select group of faculty and administrators who have distinguished themselves by their teaching and/or research.

Typically four meetings of the 21 Club are held during the academic year. Membership is by invitation.

Last Meeting

For our first meeting of the Spring '26 semester we were fortunate to have club member Ronda Brulotte, Professor of Geography and Environmental Sciences, and Associate Director, International Studies Institute, discuss her research into the economic, sociological, and ecological impacts on Oaxaca, Mexico of the evolution of mezcal from a drink of local to international interest. The title of Ronda’s talk is: An Anthropological Perspective on Oaxacan Mezcal.

Next Meeting

For our last meeting of the academic year Kelly and I would like to invite you to our home for an open-house-type, social gathering on Saturday, May 9 . Ronda, who presented such a nice talk to the club about her research into the impacts of mezcal on the economic, sociological, and ecological aspects of Oaxaca, Mexico, has agreed to guide us through a mezcal tasting at this social – so, all the more reason to attend.
