Exploring Relational Worlds: Making Sense of Visual Representations in Research, Teaching and Everyday Life

Abstract: Social scientists and educators have long used participant drawings to gain insight into how people view the world.  This interactive talk examines how visual representations can be used in research and teaching.  The talk will also explore how social scientists systematically analyze and “make sense” of visual data.  Audience participation and conversation invited.   

 

Bio: Jan Armstrong is Professor Emerita in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of New Mexico.  She taught undergraduate and graduate courses in human lifespan development and qualitative research methods in the Educational Psychology Program.  Her interests include knowledge transmission in professional communities, well-being and qualitative research methods.
