Where: UNM SUB

Timothy Graham, Professor of History and Director of the Institute for Medieval Studies, The University of New Mexico

Perhaps the most beautiful books ever made were produced during the European Middle Ages. For more than twenty years when he joined a cutting-edge research team based at Cambridge University Tim Graham's work has centered on the description, analysis, and interpretation of these remarkable hand-produced artifacts. In his presentation to the 21 Club, Tim will describe and discuss the materials and techniques that went into making a medieval book, covering such topics as how parchment was manufactured and what constituents were used for inks and pigments. He will illustrate his talk with some of the most striking pages from medieval manuscripts and he will let the Club 21 members puzzle over an Anglo-Saxon riddle

Our thanks to our speaker, Timothy Graham (Director, Institute for Medieval Studies) and to Ly Flock and the UNM catering staff.
